Online MDT Consultation
for Cancer Therapy
Coordinating remote multidisciplinary case reviews with Chinese oncology specialists — so international patients can access an additional expert perspective without immediate travel.
ChinaMed Waypoint is a coordination service, not a medical provider. All clinical assessments and MDT conclusions are the responsibility of the hospital's medical team.
What This Coordination Service Covers
This page is for international patients who have received a cancer diagnosis and are seeking an additional expert perspective from Chinese oncology specialists — either to verify their current diagnosis and treatment plan, or to explore whether treatment in China may be an appropriate next step. We manage the coordination; the clinical review is handled by the hospital team.
- Explaining what an online MDT consultation typically involves and what to expect from the process
- Advising on the medical documentation usually required for case submission
- Coordinating submission of patient records to the hospital's international oncology department
- Managing bilingual communication between the patient and the hospital throughout the process
- Helping arrange translation or formatting of documents where needed
- Supporting scheduling of the consultation session and follow-up communications
- Assisting with planning subsequent in-person visits if recommended after the remote review
How an Online MDT Consultation Is Typically Structured
The following is a general overview of the process as it typically operates. Exact steps vary by hospital and case complexity — the hospital's medical team will confirm the specific requirements for your situation.
Documentation Preparation
The patient or their family gathers all relevant medical records — pathology reports, imaging studies (CT, MRI, PET-CT), biopsy results, treatment history, and any prior oncology opinions. We can advise on what is typically required and help with formatting and translation.
Case Submission to the Hospital
The compiled documentation is submitted to the international department of an appropriate oncology hospital in China. The hospital's team reviews the materials to determine whether the case is suitable for MDT discussion and which specialists should be involved.

MDT Review by the Hospital Team
The hospital's multidisciplinary oncology team — typically including medical oncologists, surgical oncologists, radiologists, and pathologists — reviews the case together and discusses diagnostic findings, staging, and treatment options. This discussion is conducted among the clinical team and is not attended by the patient.
Online Consultation Session
The patient and their family participate in a structured video consultation with designated specialists from the MDT team, who present and explain their findings and recommendations. The session is conducted with bilingual facilitation where needed.

Written Summary and Follow-Up
A written summary of the MDT findings is typically provided after the consultation. Depending on the hospital and case, this may include recommendations for further diagnostics, suggested treatment approaches, or a recommendation for an in-person visit.

Documents Typically Required for Case Submission
A well-prepared submission leads to a more thorough MDT review. The following documents are commonly requested — your specific case may require more or fewer items.
We can advise on exact requirements once we understand your situation and identify the appropriate hospital department.
Who This Coordination Service Is Designed For
The following is general guidance only. Whether an online MDT consultation is appropriate for your situation is a clinical determination — your oncologist should be consulted before proceeding.
This Service May Be Relevant If You…
- Have received a cancer diagnosis and want an independent expert review from a Chinese oncology team
- Are comparing treatment options and want to understand how Chinese specialists would approach your case
- Are considering treatment in China and want a remote assessment before committing to travel
- Have a rare, complex, or unclear diagnosis where additional specialist perspectives may be useful
- Have received conflicting opinions from different hospitals and want a structured MDT view
- Are exploring advanced options such as cell therapy or immunotherapy and need an eligibility assessment starting point
This Service Does Not Replace…
- Your existing treating oncologist's ongoing care and clinical oversight
- A first diagnosis — MDT consultations review existing documented cases, not new assessments
- Emergency or urgent care — this process typically takes days to weeks to arrange
- An in-person examination, which may still be recommended after the remote review
- Insurance, legal, or financial advice regarding treatment decisions abroad
Timeline and Practical Considerations
Typical Timeline
Remote MDT reviews often take several days to a couple of weeks from document submission to consultation, depending on case complexity and the completeness of materials provided. We can give a more specific estimate once we understand your case.
No Travel Required Initially
The initial review and online consultation session can be completed entirely remotely. If the MDT recommends an in-person visit, we can help plan the logistics of that next stage.
Language and Communication
Chinese oncology teams operate in Mandarin. Bilingual facilitation and translated written summaries are part of what we coordinate to ensure the review is clearly communicated to the patient and their family.
Want to Understand Why Second Opinions Matter Before Deciding?
Our informational guide explains what a second opinion involves in cancer care, when it is most helpful, and how MDT reviews are structured — providing useful context before you decide whether to arrange one.
Why a Second Opinion Is Important for Cancer Treatment →How We Can Help
ChinaMed Waypoint is a medical travel coordination service. We do not provide medical assessments, diagnoses, or treatment recommendations. Our role is logistical and organisational.
If you are considering an online MDT consultation in China, we can assist with:
- Explaining what the MDT consultation process typically involves and what to prepare
- Helping you understand what documentation is usually required for international case submission
- Coordinating document collection, formatting, and bilingual communication with the hospital
- Connecting you with appropriate oncology departments and international patient offices
- Facilitating the scheduling of the online consultation session
- Supporting communication of MDT findings back to you in a clear, accessible format
- Helping plan follow-up steps, including in-person visits if recommended

A Note on This Type of Decision
Patients seeking a second opinion or MDT review are often navigating a complex and emotionally demanding situation. An additional expert perspective can provide important clarity — but it works best when integrated with, rather than separate from, your existing clinical relationships.
We encourage patients to share any MDT findings with their home country oncologist, so that all perspectives can be considered together. Our role is to help reduce the coordination burden of accessing this additional input — not to replace the clinical guidance you are already receiving.
If you have questions about the process, what a written summary typically contains, or how to plan next steps, our team is available to explain.
